Persistent Magma‐Rich Waves Beneath Mid‐Ocean Ridges Explain Long Periodicity on Ocean Floor Fabric

The ocean floor makes up the majority of Earth's surface and yet, its geomorphology is not fully understood. Recent debate has focused on whether sea level changes—driven by Milankovitch glacial cycles—generate abyssal hill fabric modulating mid-ocean ridge magma supply. However, periodicities longer than cycles are prominent in bathymetry. Using crustal thickness estimates from two-phase flow simulations transport, I show that persistent melt-rich porosity waves could be responsible for at periods 100 kyr longer, except case fast-spreading ridges. For kyr, spectral energy notably present large mantle permeabilities regardless spreading rates. Therefore, models can provide constraints elusive parameters such as permeability viscosity when directly linked to produced.

It is shown that the Ocean-Earth crust interface can propagate gravity-sound Rayleigh waves. Dispersion properties of waves and flux of energy are derived.
